Proper candle care plays a crucial role in ensuring that you get the most enjoyment and longevity out of your candle.
Burning Instructions
-
Trim the Wick: Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to 1/4 inch. This helps to prevent excessive flickering and smoke, and ensures a cleaner, more even burn. Wood wicks MUST be trimmed between each use to ensure you receive the most effective burn for your candle.
- Lighting Instructions: Each time you light the candle, hold the lighter or match on the wick for at least three seconds so that the full wick catches flame, not just one edge. Lighters are the preferred tool for lighting wood wicks since they have a hotter and more consistent flame. DO NOT use paper towels or any other items to light wicks. This will create debris that will clog the candle and may create a fire hazard.
-
Keep Candle Clean: Ensure that your candle remains free of any foreign materials, such as matches or wick trimmings. These may create a fire hazard and cause the candle to burn unevenly.
-
Burn on a Safe Surface: Always place your candle on a stable, level surface that is fire-resistant. This reduces the risk of the candle tipping over or heat damaging the surface underneath.
-
Limit Burn Time: Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Prolonged burning can cause the candle to overheat, potentially leading to a larger flame, soot, or even cracking the container. After 4 hours, let the candle cool and solidify before relighting.
Recommended Safety Guidelines
- Never leave a burning candle unattended! Be sure to extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep.
- Follow the 2-foot rule. Don't place a burning candle near clothing, books, curtains, or anything flammable, and maintain at least 2 feet between your candle and any other flammable items.
- Keep lit candles away from drafts, ceiling fans, and any air currents as that will not only redirect the flame but will also result in an uneven burn that will minimize the life of the candle.
- Extinguish a candle if the flame gets too close to the candle holder or container.
- Place burning candles at least 6 inches apart from one another.
- A burning candle should not be used as a nightlight.
Repurposing the Vessel That Housed Your Candle
To do so, simply wash the vessel first with hot, soapy water to remove the wick stickers and any residual wax from inside the vessel. Once the vessel is free of wax and wick stickers, they are now dishwasher-safe! However, we still recommend hand washing them to maintain their design/label.
Did Your Candle Arrive Melted?
In cases of extreme heat, candles may experience melting in transit. If you do receive a melted candle - don't worry! Place the candle upright on a hard surface and allow 24 hours for it to form back into its original shape.
