Proper candle care plays a crucial role in ensuring you get the most enjoyment and longevity out of your candle! Below are the best practices to use when burning a candle.
Trim the Wick
Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to 1/4 inch. This helps to prevent excessive flickering and smoke, and ensures a cleaner, more even burn. Wood wicks MUST be trimmed between each use to ensure you receive the most effective burn for your candle.
Lighting Instructions
Each time you light the candle, hold the lighter or match on the wick for at least three seconds so that the full wick catches flame, not just one edge. Lighters are the preferred tool for lighting wood wicks since they have a hotter and more consistent flame. DO NOT use paper towels or any other items to light wicks. This will create debris that will clog the candle and may create a fire hazard.
Keep Candle Clean
Ensure your candle remains free of any foreign materials, such as matches or wick trimmings. These may create a fire hazard and cause the candle to burn unevenly.
Burn on a Safe Surface
Always place your candle on a stable, level, and fire-resistant surface. This reduces the risk of the candle tipping over or heat damaging the surface underneath.
Limit Burn Time
Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Prolonged burning can cause the candle to overheat, potentially leading to a larger flame, soot, or even cracking the container. After 4 hours, let the candle cool and solidify before relighting.
